Travel publishing has a credibility problem, most of it self-inflicted. This page sets out how we work, so you can judge for yourself how much weight to give what you read here.
Every destination guide and every story on this site is written by someone who has been there. We do not commission desk-written round-ups about places nobody on the team has visited, and we do not publish articles assembled from other people's articles.
Where a piece draws on a stay that is now some years old, the publication date and the last-updated date both appear at the top of the article so you can weigh it accordingly.
Nothing here is published from the road. The first few days somewhere are the least reliable days to write about it — everything is novel, nothing is contextualised, and the tendency is to mistake your own excitement for a recommendation.
Articles are drafted after returning, when it is possible to tell the difference between a place that was genuinely good and a place that happened to catch you on a good afternoon.
Facts that a reader might act on are checked against a primary source before publication:
Guides are reviewed on a rolling basis and updated when something material changes — a route closes, a booking system replaces walk-up entry, a price moves substantially. Updated articles carry a visible last-updated date.
When an article is updated rather than rewritten, we do not backdate it to appear newer than it is. Reversing the publication date to game freshness signals is a practice this site does not use.
If something here is wrong, tell us at hello@yourdomain.com and we will check it. Factual errors are corrected as quickly as we can verify the correction, and where the error was substantive the article carries a short note saying what was changed and when.
We do not quietly delete articles that turn out to be wrong. Corrections are made in the open.
Nobody can buy a placement, a recommendation or a positive review on this site. Advertising is served programmatically by a third-party network and neither we nor advertisers choose which ads appear next to which article. Affiliate links, where used, never determine what is recommended.
Where a stay, a tour or equipment has been provided free or at a discount, that is disclosed prominently in the article itself. Accepting hospitality never comes with a commitment to a favourable write-up, and we say so before accepting it.
Photographs are our own unless credited otherwise. Images are adjusted for exposure, white balance and contrast; they are not composited, and elements are not added or removed. Where a photograph was taken in conditions that flatter a place unusually — a rare clear morning, an empty site at dawn — the caption says so.
People are photographed with their consent. We do not publish identifiable images of children without a parent's permission.
Articles are written by people. Machine-generated prose is not published here as editorial content. Where software assists with routine tasks — transcription, spell-checking, resizing images — that is a tool, not an author, and it does not change who is responsible for the words.
